This narrative documents a soldier's journey during the American Civil War by way of his letters home. As a member of the 20th Michigan Infantry Regiment, he personally observed PResident Abraham Lincoln and the Battle of Antietam and participated in the intense battles at Fredericksburg, Vicksburg and Knoxville. In May of 1864 he was wounded at Spotsylvania Court House, Virginia, which led to his death a month later. It is a gripping story of struggle, friendship and sacrifice during the country's most deadly and costly war.
